Build Body Positivity | 6 Tips-184

We are all more than just our appearance.

Being comfortable and happy in your own skin is not something that comes easy. We always seem to find some imperfection and notice every flaw until we start to think poorly of ourselves. It is time this ends. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and by building body positivity you will live a happier and more positive life.

No matter if you are tall, short, curvy, thin, your body is perfect and it time you start thinking so as well. Building body positivity doesn't happen overnight, but with these 6 tips, you can start on your journey to a more body-positive life.

6 Tips to Building Body Positivity

1. Workout for your mind and not your body

Your mindset towards working out should change from working out for your body, to working out to be the best version of yourself mentally. Working out is a powerful thing, it is good for your body, mind, and soul and can do wonders! However, going to the gym with a negative attitude and only being there to "fix" your body is not the way to go about it.

Workout with the mindset of exercising your mind and for a happier healthier you.

2. Don't criticize others

Thinking more body positive thoughts towards yourself starts with thinking more positive thoughts towards others. It can sometimes feel easy to judge others based on their appearance and sometimes this makes us feel better about our own insecurities. However, we are all humans; each with our own insecurities, doubts, and fears and no one deserves to be judged and ridiculed for their body.

Instead of noticing the flaws in someone, take notice of all the beauty. Trust me, the positive words and thoughts about others will have a direct effect on your thoughts about yourself.

3. Dress for your body type

This sounds simple, but dressing for your body is difficult for most people. You don't have to blindly follow the trends or wear what everyone else is wearing because it seems hip. Choose clothing you feel most comfortable in and fit your body how you want it to fit. This will do wonders for your confidence.

4. Be Grateful

Practicing being grateful for what you have is important in forgetting what you feel you may lack. Instead of wishing you were skinner you have to start thinking of what you already have - long healthy hair, soft skin, a bright smile, or anything else. The things you don't take for granted are things other people would kill for!

Start appreciating what you have in the now.

5. Wear what you want

Wearing what you like and feel comfortable in is key. If you see a dress and love it wear it. It doesn't matter if the style is conventionally unflattering on your body shape, if you like it, go for it. Your confidence when wearing something you like and feel good in will shine through and when you radiate confidence no one will question you.

6. Practice Positivity

In a time when there is so much negativity around it is important to be positive! When people are being body negative around you leave the situation. There's only so much negative speaking like "I need to lose 10 pounds, I'm so huge" that you can deal with. These negative words will, in the end, take a toll on you as well.

Be around people who speak and spread positive words so those are what echo in your head.

Building body positivity is definitely a challenge, but a challenge every woman should be undertaking. Use these tips to help re-wire your brain to a more positive and fulfilled one. However, if you feel your body issues have reached a dangerous point be sure to speak with someone - a friend, family, therapist - and get the help you deserve.

It is time to reclaim our thoughts and turn the negatives to positives.
